Sample Board Morjo™ Thinny-Pennies™ Round Recycled Glass Tiles 3/4 Inch comes with one of each tile in our color palette in the 3/4 inch (20mm) size. Here is more information about the tiles and how they are used:
MORJO™ Thinny-Pennies™ are 20mm Penny Round Recycled Glass Tiles. They are sold loose by the 1/2 pound (approximately 70+ pieces), which covers slightly under 1/3 of a square foot (~42 square inches) with a standard grout gap of 1/16 inch. These tiles have a glossy finish, and the glass has solid color throughout (and not just on the tops or bottoms.) They are opaque when mounted on an opaque surface.
The Thinny Pennies are the same thickness as regular glass mosaic tile (4mm or ~1/8 inch) and not fat like glass gems. This makes them much easier to use with other types of glass tile and easier to grout.
The recycled glass is a homogeneous material that cuts cleanly and predictably using the Wheel-bladed Mosaic Glass Cutter. They are hard and durable and UV-resistant and can be used for the exteriors of commercial buildings. The fusing process for making these tiles from powdered recycled glass is referred to as “warm glass” or “enamel glass” or “pate de verre.”
Rough Bottoms for Improved Bonding
The bottoms of these tiles are left intentionally rough from gritty mold release (chalk) for improved bond strength. In my experience, and rough, scratched, or etched glass is more effective than embossed ridges. Rough bottoms also has another important advantage over embossed ridges: they don’t interfere with cutting.
Each 1/2-pound bag of about 70+ tiles covers just under 1/3 of a square foot (~42 square inches) assuming a standard grout gap of 1/16 inch.
Grout Gap?
Note that dry indoor mosaics do not have to be grouted (and thus you can simply mount the tiles tightly together), but outdoor and wet mosaics must have grout to prevent water from penetrating behind the tiles. The best way to ensure that the gaps between the tiles is to leave a 1/16-inch gap instead of pressing them tightly together, and this point seems counter-intuitive to some people. Consider this: you can never mount them so closely together that water can’t penetrate it, but you can accidentally put them so close that grout doesn’t get adequately pressed into the crack during the grouting process.
Compatibility
These tiles have a nominal thickness of 1/8 inch (4mm), which is the same nominal thickness as most of the glass tile we sell. You can use these with other brands of recycled glass and even vitreous glass, although the graininess of some vitreous colors might not look good when combined with the homogeneous glassiness of recycled glass tiles.
Cutting Recycled Glass Thinny-Pennies™
Recycled glass cuts like butter using the Mosaic Glass Cutters without creating a lot slivers or cutting waste.
Imitation Gold DAMAGED 3/4-Inch WAVY 8 sheets. This product is 8 SHEETS with incidental shipping damage from the factory. The incidental damage in most sheets is a few tiles with chipped corners, but some sheets have some tiles with scratches on the back (from the glass chips that moved around. Many customers might be able to use all of the tiles. The standard product is described below:
Imitation Gold Mosaic Glass WAVY 20mm (3/4 Inch) is SILVER (Ag) alloy leaf fused under hand-cut glass and sold in sheets of 49 tiles mounted on removable clear film (1/4 square foot). These are what some competitors are selling as real gold mosaic (shame, shame), but they are great for what they are: a beautiful and economical alternative to real gold mosaic.
These are hand-cut tiles, but they are fairly square and uniform for the most part. Note that the backs are coated with a yellow epoxy to inhibit oxidation from tarnishing the silver foil.
sales unit: 8 SHEETS OF 49 tiles mounted on removable clear film
material: glass fused over silver leaf
variety: molded tile
colorfast, UV resistant
durability: frost-proof, impervious to liquid
usage: suitable for indoor and outdoor use
Coverage
One sheet of 49 tiles covers 1/4 square foot. 8 SHEETS covers roughly under 2 square feet, minus the damaged individual tiles you deem unusable. Use our tile estimator to calculate how much you need for your project. Add about 5% extra to account for cutting scrap.
Compatibility
These can be mixed and used with most brands of 3/4 inch mosaic tile because their thickness is 1/8 inch nominal (4mm), which is a common industry standard. BUT, keep in mind that these are hand cut and do not have beveled edges like molded tile, and this means they will not fit into mounting grids as deeply as the molded tile.
Cutting Imitation Gold Mosaic Glass
Imitation Gold Mosaic Glass can be cut into halves, quarters, triangles and irregular shapes using our Mosaic Glass Cutter.

BULK Cutting Strips of Colored Glass Mirror Tile 15mm are 1 pound bags of about 200 tiles on clear plastic film. These are strips 2-tiles wide and not square sheets. Strip length varies up to approximately 1 foot – see pics. Also included are the few tiles that fall off the strips. These are a great way to buy the mirror tiles in bulk. Supplies are limited.
We also have a bulk salvage colored mirror tile rainbow mix.
sales unit: 1 pound (~200) tiles temporarily mounted face down on clear plastic film
material: glass
variety: translucent colored glass with slight ripples and bubbles in the surface for an artistic look
pigments: colorfast, UV resistant
durability: impervious to liquid
Advantages of Our Colored Glass Tile
Colored Glass Mirror Tile 15mm is high-quality tile suitable for architectural installation indoors and outdoors. Unlike the cheap crafting tiles sold by our competitors, the silver is more securely bonded into the back side of the glass, and the glass itself is actually pigmented. (Exceptions: Gilt, Metallic, Brass, etc., where the metallic color comes from the alloy of silver on the back). Surface coatings on competitors’ products scratch easily off of their cheap clear glass. The foil on their product also comes off the glass when cutting the tiles. Not so with our mirror tile. You can cut them with confidence. Read our warning about the inferior mirror tile sold by competitors.
Limitations of Use
The manufacturer says that swimming pools are acceptable, but these are a new product, and long-term test data for use in pools does not exist. (Use in pools would be at customer risk and require best practices for grouting and sealing.)
Install INDOORS for longest life.
OUTDOOR use should be ok, but avoid high chlorine and sulfur environments and cleaning with acid.
Product has been tested in UV sunlight and installed in low and high temperature locations with no problems observed to date.
Avoid using mounting mesh.
Avoid using in environments high in chlorine or sulfur.
Our opinion is that these could last a long time in an outdoor mosaic patio table if thoroughly sealed, but these are a new product and aging over years and decades is unknown.
Coverage
With a standard grout gap of approximately 1/16 inch, one sheet of 36 tile will cover approximately 0.11 square foot. Nine (9) sheets covers 1 square feet.
Compatibility
Tile thickness is 1/8 inch nominal, the same as most of the glass mosaic tile we sell, which means that these can be used with other types and brands.
Cutting Colored Glass Mirror Tile
We recommend using the wheel-blade Mosaic Glass Cutter we sell to cut these and other types of glass mosaic tile. Unlike the cheaply made mirror-tiles sold be competitors, these tiles can be cut without causing the silver to fall of the glass.
Colored Glass Mirror Tile in Mosaic Art
These are mirror tiles, but there is waviness in the glass and silver which make the reflections distorted compared to a normal flat mirror. The purpose of the mirror is in these tiles is to reflect light not distinct images. Do not order if that is a problem. There is a fairly complete color palette available, and so an artist could render and image using only these mirror tiles, but they can be used with standard-finish varieties of glass tile.

Grouting Round Tile
Note that dry indoor mosaics do not require grouting, and so for those you can simply mount the tiles tightly together. On the other hand, wet and outdoor mosaics must have grout to prevent water from penetrating behind the tiles. For those, leaving a 1/16-inch gap allows enough grout to adhere between the tiles.
